Thanks for putting up with me again.. :S
It was about 8:30 in the morning as I was rolling out of bed. I was determined to have a good day today after what had happened yesterday. Hopefully, nothing like that would ever happen again.
Walking downstairs, I looked out the window to see if any nosy neighbours or police were lurking outside. Thankfully, I didn’t see any. No one had called my house since yesterday; not even my immediate family. My parents didn’t mention it to anyone because it was all caused from a big misunderstanding. From what I had seen, I didn’t see anyone filming me while I was being arrested or brought into the police station..I didn’t want to be famous or infamous anyway!
“Hello Joanna,” said my Mom. As usual she was up early.
My Dad, on the other hand, had already left for work.
“What do you have planned for today?”
“I’m going to Lily’s appointment this afternoon.”
“Is everything okay- is she sick?” My mother looked concerned.
“She’s okay, just a check up. She just wanted someone else to come with her.”
“Alright then, so do you want a ride there?”
“Yeah, that would be nice,” I said laughing a little, “but I’m going for a short run first. I’ll be back in 20 minutes.”
I knew I should lay low for awhile, so I put on my sunglasses and one of my Dad’s baseball caps once I had changed into my new Lululemon running gear. It was kind of a lame disguise, but it was better than not having one at all. I ran down a side street instead of taking my usual route, Main Street.
Turning around the corner, my heart beat started to pick up speed and I could feel sweat trickling down my forehead. Going through the park was a great idea since I could see some people, but they didn’t recognize me.
A young couple about my age were laughing and talking on the other side of the park. As I ran closer, I noticed the boy looked like Craig. Thinking I was getting dehydrated and not thinking clearly, I sipped from my water bottle. I got a clearer picture when I rubbed my eyes, but I remembered to keep my head down so I wouldn’t give myself away in case they did know me.
Looking out of the corner of my eye, I realized the boy WAS Craig! And he was with Kimberly, Carmen’s best friend. Why on Earth would they be hanging out with one another? I could see they they were quite friendly with one another - Craig being all cute whispering in her ear, Kimberly laughed.
“Don’t jump to conclusions,” I said to myself, but of course that’s what I did best. Ten minutes later I was home, still thinking about what i had seen in the park. Quickly I showered so I’d be ready for Lily’s appointment and I’b be able to go to the police station before hand.
Soon after, I was the car getting a ride from my Mom to the station.
“I’m glad you’re doing this honey, even if you’re not entirely sure if it will work. It is a very grown up thing to do.”
“Thanks Mom,” I said.

“Lily, your doctor is ready to see you now.” We, Lily, her Mom and I, followed the nurse into the office.
“So, does your Mom know?” I mouthed to Lily.
“Yeah, she does,” she replied at an audible decibel.
“And..?”
“And she’s okay with it.”
I breathed a sigh of relief - I couldn’t keep a secret, let alone from my best friend’s mother especially about information about her own daughter.
The doctor, named “Angela” said that she needed to preform some tests to make sure the baby was developing properly and Lily was on the right track as well. Angela prescribed some prenatal supplements for Lily.
“Okay, next we are going to listen to your baby’s heart beat. It will take a few minutes to find it since the baby is still very tiny, so not to worry.”
Angela did seem to have a little trouble finding it, but we weren’t worried. Then Angela seemed to get a little flustered, you could tell she was searching quickly.
Then Angela quietly said, “I can’t find a heart beat.”
